Department of Archaeology, Hazara University Mansehra
The Department has been continually engaged in archaeologist exploration and excavation in the different parts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Northern Areas of Pakistan, As part of the field activities, Faculty and student of the Department with the assistance of the staff of the 'Hazara University Museum and ' Abbott Museum' have completed archaeological survey of District Abbottabad and Haripur while that if district Mansehra is near completion, In the series of these projects, the faculty and student of the Department in Collaboration with the Leicester University (UK) has successfully excavated the grave sties at Singoor and Gankorini-o Take (both in district Chitral). The most promising archaeological evidences and marvellous antiquities retrieved at the two sites led to challenge the age- long theory of the Greek origin of the people of Chital and Kalasha. Correlating the findings from these grave sites with the living culture if the above valleys led to establish an ethic and cultural link of the present population of the two areas with the ancient tribes of the Indo-Aryans.
The Staff and Student of the Department have recently completed a Dental Survey of district Chitral and the Northern Areas of Pakistan in collaboration with the California State University (USA). As a result, we have got the largest collection of dental casts(impressions) of various ethic groups inhabiting these areas, The main purpose if this research is to trace out the biological origin of the people of the projects areas. The Dental Survey and the findings from tje grave sities will greatly help in exploring the origin of the settlers of Chitral and The Northern Areas.
